Our partners at SalDan Construction Group gave us a sneek preview of their lastest project in The City of Sault Ste. Marie

The Trinity Towers, also known as the Cara Building, will be a nine-story 108 unit mixed-use development with amenities to include a fitness center, party room, social lounge, and a computer and library area.
The project will also feature ground-floor commercial spaces and a dedicated chapel honoring the site’s heritage.

What caught our attention when hearing about this project, was that they dedicated 22 of these units as barrier-free suites!!
This is how SalDan continues to be a leader in the development community as these homes are so needed in every community. We hope this example encourages new multi-family developments to include accessible units in thier projects. "Keep "Making It Right"!!

A recent artile on densification once again was using new multi-family developments as one of the bigger issues between neighbours in inner-city communities.

Infills have had questionable reputations as they arise in neighbourhoods, some feel they change the asthetic or cariture of the area, while others say it helps to keep prices affordable.

With recent surges in the cost of just about everything, we recalled an article published in the Edmonton Sun in December of 2025 featuring our old friends at Effect Homes Builders Ltd.
In this article it showed that in 2012 they had built a net-zero home to prove that it was a viable concept... what happened after they studied the energy consuption, that they had an energy surplus in each of the first 3 years!!

What does this mean in simple terms is that the total surplus at that point was 14,000 kWh in almost 4 years.
The solar electricity generated so far has alone saved 44,000 kg of CO2 emissions from Alberta’s electricity generators.
That means the home has generated enough energy for the home’s consumption as well as feeding net-excess energy back into the grid for neighbours to use.

The homeowners state, “It has been unbelievably impressive.”
“We have no gas bill and produce our own electricity so our utility bills are next to nothing. When you look at our utility savings each month it is amazing how that reduces the cost of home ownership. Looking back it is obvious that it was a solid investment that directly contributes to a better environment.”

From this you could conclude that not all infills are bad and some can actually benefit their neighbourhoods. We do have to acknowledge that "net-zero" homes are not what most communities are approving, but perhaps that is the solution, to require a higher standard of homes to be built that support and grow the community!
